3 Reasons Why Smart, Hardworking People Don't Become Successful
Posted on June 16th, 2020
When Andrew Carnegie was creating the modern day concept of a "job" this is what he said:
"The greatest astonishment of my life was the discovery that the man who does the work IS NOT the man who gets rich"
Now let that sink in for a second...
Is it possible..
That all the things I was ever told would bring success…
Going to school, listening to my teachers, getting a job and working hard to get the life I really want...
Was it all a lie?
Here’s what I mean.
Hi, my name is Rob Jones...
And I believe that the “American Dream” that was sold to us is complete B.S.
After traveling to over 25 different countries in the past 3 years, seeking out the world's most successful entrepreneurs to find the truth behind what success really takes…
I have found that there are 3 reasons why smart, hard-working people never become successful
Here they are:
REASON 1) They are never encouraged to dream big, so they settle for the small dreams they were given
When John Lennon was 5 years old..
His mother would always tell him that happiness was the key to life.
When he went to school, they asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up.
He wrote down "happy"
They told him that he didn't understand the assignment, and he told them that they didn't understand life..
Now what was my dream when I was younger?
Big house, nice car, good job.
Why was that?
Because that was the dream I was told to have..
But when I looked closely at every single person that had that dream..
I realised one thing.
They were all unhappy.
Don't fall into this trap..
Instead, we need to adopt our own definition of success instead of defaulting to the one that was given to us from people that were no smarter than us..
REASON 2) They aren’t risk takers, so they play it safe
Guess where is the most abundant place on earth is?
Dubai? China? Maybe good ol USA?
No.
No..
And LOL no.
The most abundant place in the world is the graveyard..
Because it is here that we find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled..
The books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered..
All because we are too afraid to take that first step..
My problem with being smart and hardworking was that I was always afraid to take risks..
But here is the funny thing about life..
None of us will make it out alive..
So if we are going to fail at something that we don’t enjoy doing, we might as well take a chance on doing what we love..
REASON 3) They fell into the trap of formal education instead of pursuing self education
I find this really weird about myself..
When they told me that I had to pay an obscene amount of dollars to attend a university..
So that maybe one day..
10 years down the road..
I would be happy and successful..
I did not even blink..
But when someone who was living the life that I wanted was willing to mentor me one on one..
I immediately thought,
“Oh too good to be true”
“That would never work for me”
“I don't have enough time"
"I'm not ready yet"
"I don’t want to put all this time into something…only to have it fail”
"I wouldn't even know where to start"
These were the thoughts that haunted my mind when I was stuck at a $12 an hour job cold-calling businesses on the phone trying to sell them those reacher-grabber sticks for their websites..
Then I realized I was trading all my time away for money that I was never going to have time to spend... makes no sense right?
So while working I found a mentor who taught me how to start promoting online products on the side of what I was already doing..
After months and months of failure... it finally worked! So I grabbed my backpack, left everything behind and started traveling the world (yeah yeah, I know I looked like Jesus back then)...
Here's me chilling with a monkey on my first day just hours after I stepped off the plane deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia..
I explored all kinds of exotic locations...
With more success came more money and time, and I ended up losing a bunch of weight and getting into shape (not bad for 40 right?!?)...
Here I am a few months later hanging out with my girlfriend and some friends at a cliffside beach resort in Bali...
As I became more successful, I was even was able to fly my mom first class for her first time ever traveling outside North America at the age of 69...
It was such a joy to take my mom, at the age of 69, with me on her dream trip of a lifetime around the world...her first time ever flying internationally!
As I traveled around, more and more people kept asking me how I was doing it, so I started teaching people exactly what my mentor taught me...
And the more results I was able to help get people.. the more people wanted to learn how to start their own side hustle
The secret was helping them to pick the right one to get started..
